A R Rahman – This Oscar winning musician is one of the most celebrated and loved Indian ever for his timeless music. However, much like many of the world renowned geniuses, he never had it easy in his growing up years. He had to bid good bye to school at an early age to support his family which was going through a tough phase financially. He had seen enough of difficulties in his early life and may be that attributed to his simple and down to earth attitude towards life. These adverse experiences also marked his deep spiritual inclination and according to Rahman this is what keeps him grounded during the ups and downs. He speaks all these and much more on the new book, a biography titled A R Rahman The Spirit of Music, compiled by documentary filmmaker and writer Nasreen Munni Kabir. The book follows no chronological structure and it’s in the form of series of conversations between A R Rahman and the writer.

Mani Ratnam launched the book considering he’s the one who spotted A R Rahman’s talent for the first time and gave him a big break with Roja. Besides Rahman’s family, Ram Gopal Varma, Subhash Ghai, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Imtiaz Ali etc were also present at the occasion. The world famous drummer, Shivamani was also present at the occasion.
A R Rahman posted on his Facebook profile:
Just finished the book launch. it was a beautiful new experience and I must thank Nasreen Munni for patiently putting it together.
Sometimes she had to wait hours before i would get into the conversation zone due to my musical commitments but she never made me feel intimidated during the whole process..She also never made me feel guil…ty to have made her wait..
