The Mascot: Stumpy the elephant it was! The Mascot of the World Cup entered with leg gears and a cricket bat to greet the audience. This was the first time we got to see an elephant on a rickshaw! We wonder why he was blue though?! Do you feel he looks better than the CWG mascot Shera?

Bryan Adams: After performing at several cities in India, Bryan Adams struck a cord at the opening ceremony of the World Cup with his all time favourite, 'Summer of 69.' Sonu Nigaam too, performed at the ceremony singing 'Rise for Glory,' a song he composed himself, as he welcomed the captains of the 14 participating teams. Trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy sung the official song 'De Ghuma Ke.'

Laser ceremony: Laser and fireworks display at the Bangabandhu National Stadium was spectacular. Around 2,500 students from city schools and colleges and 3,500 members of Bangladesh Armed Forces took part in the dance performances.

Aerial cricket match: Another performance at the ceremony that gripped the audience was the aerial cricket match played by performers. The performance was done horizontally on a building. High-flying acrobats chased a laser-beamed ball against a pitch at the façade of the building. Quite interesting, isn’t it?

The leaders: Last but not the least; we loved the photograph of all the 14 participating teams’ Captains. While everyone’s speculating about the probable winners, or are grumbling about match fixing, the stakes are high on England and Australia winning the World Cup. It is believed that these teams have the best combination of spin, medium and fast bowling along with professional batting too. Image courtesy: Reuters
