Femina Miss India gets ticket to Bollywood!

Postby nahia on Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:37 pm

Pantaloons Femina Miss India is taking its legacy to the next level. The mother of all beauty pageants - Pantaloons Femina Miss India has announced a strategic collaboration with two of India’s ace directors Madhur Bhandarkar and Vipul Shah, at Mumbai.

The collaboration ‘PFMI- Bollywood’ will give an opportunity to filmmakers to hunt raw talent as well as help aspirants to fulfill their Bollywood dream. These directors will identify, mentor and launch two Miss India finale contestants in their respective upcoming film projects.
Along with Madhur and Vipul, many big names like Anupam Kher, Shiamak Davar will also be supporting the association by training and mentoring the contestants in acting and dance respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, director and producer Vipul Shah said, “The audience and filmmakers both want stars, but who is going to make them? Who will take the trouble of searching raw talent and shaping it? With this initiative, where we get to select talent and groom them with Anupamji and Shiamak, the girls will be able to fulfill their Bollywood dream.”

Vipul also mentioned mischievously, that since mostly the girls from beauty pageant are so tall it gets difficult to find a suitable ‘hero’ for them, so the organisers should at least reduce the height parameter or start organising a “Mr India” as well!

Agreeing with Vipul, Madhur told the media, “It’s a great association. It’s difficult to identify good talent. Eventually most of the beauty queens come to Bollywood. With this, girls will have a new route to enter the film industry.”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher added, “Thanks to this association and Times Of India, I don’t have to answer the frequently asked question, ‘Can acting be taught?’ I am a trained actor from an acting institute and I strongly believe that like any other professional field, acting too requires formal training. Gone are those days when one used to watch movies to gain knowledge about acting. Now is the time to bring more professionalism and discipline in acting.”

The experienced and noteworthy panel of experts for this year will include Marc Robinson, the official Contestant Director and Fashion Director, Mickey Mehta, Dr. Jamuna Pai, Dr Purnima Mhatre, Alisya Raut, Seema Hingrany, Sabina Merchant, Dr. Sandesh Mayekar and Prasad Bidappa.
Mr Sameer Soni, National Director, Femina Miss India said, “Whenever I travelled abroad, everyone had the same question for me, ‘Am I from Bollywood?’ Our Indian film industry is making its mark worldwide and that’s how this concept was born. With this new chapter added to the pageant, it would now provide a bigger opportunity and open up newer avenues for contestants. We are happy to associate with filmmakers Vipul Shah and Madhur Bhandarkar in launching this initiative and express our gratitude to industry stalwarts Anupam Kher and Shiamak Davar, who support us in this venture by imparting training to the contestants in acting and dance.”

Femina Miss India has been giving us fresh talent for the last 46 years and is sure to add more excitement this year too! So let’s wait and watch.
