NEW DELHI: Gold and diamonds worth Rs 65 lakh were looted from a 26-year-old jeweller from Krishna Nagar near the busy Geeta Colony flyover in east Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at a place which is barely three kilometres away from the Games Village and the IG Indoor Stadium where there is huge deployment of security personnel because of the Commonwealth Games. The incident comes a day after another jeweller was beaten up and robbed at Vikas Marg in east Delhi.
The victim, Sunny Gupta, had bought gold and diamond worth Rs 65 lakh from four shops in Chandni Chowk and was heading towards his showroom located in The Great India Place, Noida, when the robbery took place. "I had reached the bridge with 2,590gms of gold, seven pairs of diamond and Rs 21,500 in cash when a biker deliberately stopped his two-wheeler in front of my car. Though I jammed the brake hard, my car hit him and he fell on the road. Three more persons on two motorcycle pulled up beside me and started arguing with me.
"When they turned violent, a fourth rider came and he acted as a mediator between us. After I handed over some money to the one who fell on the road they all left in a hurry. I then got into my car and had just driven about 100 metres from the spot when I realized that the bag containing the gold and diamonds was gone,'' claimed Gupta.
Gupta said he had made a call the PCR but no policeman came to the spot even after five minutes. "I rushed to the Geeta Colony police station and lodged an FIR. When I asked the police to check the CCTV footage of the Chandni Chowk shops as I believe it to be an insider's job they said all of them were not working,'' added the jeweller.
Police said they had got certain leads and hoped to crack the case soon. "We will also investigate if there is a link between the two attacks on jewellers in the area,'' said the investigating officer.
