Akram, along with John Wright, Richard Pybus, Sandeep Patil and Praveen Amre, is in the running for the job left vacant by John Buchanan.
But he seems to be in for a "specific" role after he described his meeting with owner Shah Rukh Khan as a "positive" one.
"It was quite a positive meeting. Ganguly, whom I know very well and have played a lot of cricket against, was also there," Akram said.
"I am available for a consultant's position. I told them what I could do for them. I told them that I can help their fast bowlers and chalk out a strategy for them. I can also take a lot of load off the captain's shoulders," the former Pakistan captain said.
