The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian team for the first three one-day internationals against Australia on Sunday, September 10. All eyes were on R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who were rested for the India-Sri Lanka ODIs, and the selectors have done the same for the Australia series as well.

"The team for A three ODIs against Australia has been selected in line with the rotation policy of the board and accordingly R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested," chairman of selectors Prasad said.

Both Ashwin and Jadeja have not been included in the 16-man squad while seamers Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, who were not part of the India-Sri Lanka limited overs series have been included. The omission of fast bowler Shardul Thakur is the only change from the team, which defeated Sri Lanka 5-0.

However, there are no major changes in the batting line-up, and Yuvraj Singh, as expected, has once again being ignored for the mega series. The likes of KL Rahul and Manish Pandey have been retained, which shows that the BCCI is keeping their eye on the ICC 2019 World Cup. The BCCI is looking to adopt a rotation policy, trying to rest players as well.

India are set to take on Australia for a five-match ODI and three T20Is, which will last for almost a month. The first ODI is set to take place on September 17 and the last match (T20) of the tour is scheduled for October 13.

India overpowered arch-rivals Pakistan by 124 runs in a rain-marred Group B encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy in Birmingham on Sunday. Asked to bat first, the Indians rode on a power packed performance by the top order to post a challenging total. In an innings affected by rain twice -- consequently shortened to 48 overs as against the normal 50 -- India posted 319/3. Further rain interruptions forced the match officials to revise the target to 324 runs off 48 overs according to the the Duckworth Lewis method.

The Pakistanis were off to a steady start thanks to openers Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad. The duo put together an opening stand of 47 runs in the nine overs before pacer Buvneshwar Kumar struck the first blow for India by trapping Shehzad leg before. Ali continued to battle on, top scoring for Pakistan with a steady 50 runs off 65 balls before being dismissed. But the rest of the Pakistan batsmen seemed to buckle under pressure and failed to rise to the challenge

West Indies eyeing direct entry in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Sept. 12 (CRICKETNMORE) - The 1975 and 1979 champion side has to beat Ireland in a one-off ODI and then defeat England 5-0 or 4-1 with wins in the last four matches to qualify ahead of Sri Lanka

Sept. 12 (CRICKETNMORE) - The 1975 and 1979 champion side has to beat Ireland in a one-off ODI and then defeat England 5-0 or 4-1 with wins in the last four matches to qualify ahead of Sri Lanka

The Windies side has an arduous task of trying to qualify direct for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as it braces for an upcoming one-off ODI against Ireland in Belfast on 13 September and a five-match ODI series against England from 19 to 29 September.

The Windies side is currently on 78 points in the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings, eight points behind eighth-placed Sri Lanka, whom it will need to overtake in order to qualify. The top seven ODI sides apart from host England as on 30 September qualify direct for ICCs pinnacle 50-over event, which will take place from 30 May to 15 July 2019 in the United Kingdom.

The 1975 and 1979 champion side will have to beat Ireland and then also defeat England either 5-0 or by a 4-1 margin in which it wins the last four matches. In other words, losing any match other than the opening match against England at Old Trafford on 19 September will allow Sri Lanka a direct passage.

Teams not getting direct places in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will get another shot through a Qualifying tournament.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 will feature the bottom four sides from the ICC ODI Team Rankings, the top four sides from the ICC World Cricket League Championship and the top two sides from ICC World Cricket League Division 2. The top two sides from the World Cup Qualifier will complete the 10-team line-up for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

As for fourth-placed England, it will be able to gain a maximum of one point and reach 114 points, even if it wins the series 5-0. On the other hand, a 5-0 series loss will see it go down to fifth position and 106 points.

Meanwhile, India hosts Australia for five ODIs from 17 September to 1 October, a series that gives both sides a chance to go atop the rankings table currently led by South Africa with 119 points.

India and Australia are both on 117 points with Australia ahead on decimal points. A win for either side by the margin of 4-1 or better will see it move to number one position.
