Kolkata is star struck!

Postby nahia on Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:39 pm

When veteran politician Jyoti Basu’s demise was declared on Sunday morning, speculations were rife over the cancellation of the award ceremony, slotted for the same evening at a city auditorium. Though hearts were heavy, the programme did take place. After all, as the saying goes, the show must go on.

Sandipta Sen, who got an award, had to leave soon. “My MA finals are near and I need to sit with my books. I came because it’s always an honour to receive awards,” she said. Ruma Guha Thakurta, who was also bestowed with an award, sang a few lines on public demand. Udit Narayan, on his part, enthralled the crowd with his popular numbers. But it was Tina Datta, (she had started her career from Kolkata, but has now shifted base to Mumbai) who stole the show. Looking ravishing in a short black dress, she turned quite a few heads. A member in the audience commented, “Hobe na, Mumbai giye puro bhol i palte gechhe.” Overall, it was an evening when the audience got to see their favourite Bollywood and Tollywood stars performing under one roof.
