Lara Dutta loves Raakesh Agarvwal’s collection

A multi sphere gold chandelier hung in the centre of the ramp with trailing chains, to set the mood for an incredible bridal wear collection.

For Spring/Summer 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week Raakesh Agarvwal, moved away from his Red Carpet look for which he is famous for and went into opulent bridal wear with all the glittering touches. Presenting gorgeous lehengas, jackets, saris and gowns in lush colours like violet, aubergine, fuchsia, plum, peach, indigo, purple to ivory, ecru, crème and finally gold; he worked with rich fabrics that ranged from silk, tulle, net, satin, chiffon and jersey.

Revolving his collection around crystals and chain mail embroidery that drenched the collection, Raakesh leaned towards western cuts and his favourite shaded effects.

Starting the show with some sexy draped and basket weave minis and gowns - some strapless or with a single shoulder - the show moved to saris worn only with glittering churidars, which were amazing and complete show stoppers. While keeping the six yard traditional drape completely free of embellishment, Raakesh instead teamed it with dazzling ornate cholis, blouses and jackets. Raakesh has always scored with his choli designs and this time he outdid himself as glittering pieces with intricate cuts and at times almost backless, were the real scene stealers.

The gowns that followed were slinky and seductive in red, maroon or gold - each so beautiful that Bollywood and even Hollywood divas would long to wear them. The chain mail maroon and gold sequined/crystal blouse, and dress teamed with shimmering churi pants were part of the bridal look while the lehengas were often plain and at other times with sprinkles of glitter.

The show stopper was Miss Universe 2000 and Bollywood star of the film “Blue” Lara Dutta, who wore a gold lehenga, choli and dupatta – truly a great way to end a superb show. For a bride who wants to make a show stopping entry on the most important day of her life, then the Raakesh Agarvwal bridal wear collection will assure that it is possible.
