NEW DELHI: Kings XI Punjab beat Chennai Super Kings in Super Over to register their first victory in the Indian Premier League encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.

Kings XI restricted Super Kings to 136/7 to level the score which resulted in the first Super Over of the third Indian Premier League .
Patel (57 off 58 balls) hit 4 fours and two sixes but failed to guide Chennai home as he was stumped in the 18th over off Piyush Chawla.
Super Kings lost three wickets in quick succession, in 13th and 14th over, to provide some hopes to the Kings XI camp during the encounter after they started their run chase steadily with a 65-run opening partnership by Parthiv Patel and Matthew Hayden (33).
After Murali Vijay (0) and Suresh Raina (15) fall in the 13th over, Yuvraj Singh scalped Subramaniam Badrinath (2) in the next over to reduce Super Kings to 102/4 in 13.6 overs from 94/1 in 12.2 overs.
Chennai lost their first wicket when Hayden was clean bowled by Punjab’s spinner Ramesh Powar in the ninth over. Hayden was at his aggressive best as he slammed 4 fours and two sixes to score 33 off 24 balls.
Earlier, spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan (3-16) struck thrice to help Super Kings restrict Kings XI to 136/8 in their innings.
Muralitharan gave Super Kings crucial breakthroughs by dismissing Mohammad Kaif (14), Mahela Jayawardene (3) and Kumar Sangakkara (15) in regular intervals and succeeded to contain Punjab throughout the match.
Yuvraj Singh slammed 4 fours and two sixes to score 43 off just 28 balls and helped Kings XI post a modest 137-run target for Super Kings.
Sent in to bat, Kings XI lost wickets in regular intervals and failed to gain any momentum in the match.
Kings XI lost Irfan Pathan (39) and Kumar Sangakkara (15) in consecutive over to let Super Kings take the front seat of the encounter early.
After Muttiah Muralitharan foxed Sangakkara in the ninth over, Lakshmipathy Balaji clean bowled Pathan, who hit five fours and a six, in the very next over.
Albie Morkel struck in the third over to dismiss Ravi Bopara to give an early breakthrough for Super Kings.
Earlier, Super Kings stand-in skipper Suresh Raina won the toss and decided to bowl against Kings XI at MA Chidambaram stadium.
