Mallya keen on buying Brindavan property in Bangalore

Postby aryan on Tue Aug 24, 2010 10:51 am

BANGALORE: UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya, it is learnt, has set his sights on having the best view of Bangalore's skyline from his bedroom.

The drinks-to-airlines entrepreneur has evinced keen interest in buying one of the last available land parcels on MG Road, which incidentally houses the city's iconic Brindavan Hotel.

The 36,000 sqft plot of land, which has been in the market for over two years, belongs to the Rao family who owns and operates the Brindavan Hotel.

According to multiple realty sources, Mallya is believed to be looking at a commercial-cum-residential project, with a penthouse overlooking the MG Road. Mallya, however, is said to have offered a figure which is lower than the Rao family's asking price of Rs 100 crore for this prime property.

But Mallya is not the only one in the race for the property as many NRI investors and developers have also thrown their hats into the ring.

Brindavan Hotel, which started operations in the 1960s, to many oldtimers and those who used to travel to Bangalore in the 70's and 80's, was the last word in luxury. However, changing consumer preferences have impacted its bottom line as more luxurious and contemporary properties have overtaken it.
