MUMBAI ( 2008-06-26 10:50:34 ) :After Aishwarya Rai and Nandana Sen, Sushmita Sen has yet another competition.Now Pakistani actress Meera has been signed to play the lead role in the nth version of Rani Laxmibai.
While the hype on filming the life and story of Jhansi ki Rani began with Sush’s interest in the subject, now every other filmmaker seems to be inspired by the queen.
As for the glamorous Meera, she is not in the mood to compete. The actress, who came into news for all the wrong reasons with her debut Bollywood film, says, “I am not competing. Let the competition show on the big screen. Let the media, critics and audience decide. I am here to work and when people see me on stage, I want them to look at me as Jhansi Ki Rani and not Meera.”
That doesn’t sound like the Meera we saw in Nazar, her debut Bollywood debacle. The film got entangled in controversies courtesy an explicit kissing scene. However, all that’s in the past and she now wants to leave the glamorous image behind. She says, “I think a glamorous life is short-lived. There is no character in glamorous roles. An actual star is the one who lives the character.”
