Movie Review: Little Fockers

Postby aryan on Mon Jan 31, 2011 5:50 am

What's hot:
The fact that the movie lasts only 98 minutes
What's not:
Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro try very hard to dish out a few laughs, but it falls embarrassingly flat on its face.
iDiva verdict:
You won't regret skipping this one.

Director : Paul Weitz
Cast: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Alba
Rating: 1/2

Little Fockers is a terrible, terrible film that fockers with your head. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro try very hard to dish out a few laughs, but it falls embarrassingly flat on its face. Seriously, how many focker jokes can you take? Weren’t the two previous films traumatic enough?

So Ben Stiller has to take over as the ‘Godfocker’ of the family. Ha ha. We try hard not to quibble with the limp joke, given that there isn’t much that’s funny otherwise in this film. If dealing with two kids, kooky parents (Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman) and a nutty pa-in-law Jack Byrnes (De Niro) wasn’t enough, Greg Focker (Stiller) has Jessica Alba throwing herself at him. She’s a drugs rep called Andi Garcia who wants Nurse Focker to pimp a pill called Sustengo, an erectile dysfunction drug for heart patients. You can see where this is going. Not up, certainly.

In what has to be the strangest seduction scene in cinema, Alba pops the erectile dysfunction drug before stripping down to her underwear and they both fall into a dug up pit.

Don’t ask.

Stiller has to contend with his wife’s ex-fiance Kevin (Owen Wilson), who dabbles in Eastern mysticism and spirituality. Maybe the blasphemy invoked divine wrath, and it should be a good lesson for Hollywood to not attempt mocking what they don’t understand.

One feels bad for Robert De Niro, but he’s an adult and he walked into this sterile film with his eyes open. The kids are cute, but Barbra Streisand isn’t. She plays the host of a sex show and keeps saying how Papa Focker is going through ‘manopause.’ Papa Focker is learning salsa in Spain and not only reeks of a midlife crisis, but a serious identity crisis as well. Are all talented actors secretly masochists on a very deep level?

Goes to show, once a focker…

The storyline of the Little Fockers movie still revolves around the relationship of the in-laws. Great movie, great entertainment . Big Ben Stiller fan. Just as I expected, funny, great plot, and twists. Can't wait for the next one. Plan on buying the DVD.
