Saloni is a 24 year old girl who has a dark complexion and the story shows how Saloni's courage and strength lets her continue to overshadow her complexion and also to get on board a journey to search for her own identity hence the tagline - "Saloni ka Safar" which means "Saloni's journey". Saloni's mother is nice to her sister Shubra and brother Samar because they have fair skin. Saloni gets married to rich Nahar Singh. She has a nice life; Shubra, married to her sister's childhood friend Neel is angry. She ends up marrying Kunjan Pratap Singh. Saloni's husband's aunt, Kaki comes and stays with them. She is evil and it turns out she killed Nahar's previous wife Chandini and blamed him for it. Later, Tara's sister Urvashi comes as a surrogate mother since Tara cannot conceive. She runs away with the child of Tara's husband Brijesh. Neel then makes Nahar think Saloni had an affair, he throws her out until the misunderstanding clears up. Then Abhi, the son of Saloni's aunt comes. He is a traitor, not really her son. He marries Nahar's sister Pia and rapes her. Finally he is thrown out. Then Urvashi blackmails Saloni, who is pregnant. She says "I will give back the baby to the family if you get out. ANd dont tell anyone about this." Saloni makes the family hate her and is thrown out. Urvashi doesn't give the baby back and Saloni goes to protest. Aditi, Nahar's older sister, follows her and finds out the truth. Urvashi kills her. Saloni loses her memory and Neel, who is good now, with the help of his fiancee doctor Nishi, bring her back to her senses. She still has memory loss but Nahar finds her and everything is okay. But Urvashi has married Nahar's uncle and says if they tell him about this all, she will kill the child. URvashi does not know about Saloni still alive. The family fools her into thinking Saloni is Chirmi and bringing her back to the house, where they plan revenge. Urvashi finds out, but then the baby is found and Urvashi in jail. The uncle's son comes and is drunk a lot. Also, Kunjan's mom and him hate his dad, they think he had an affair with Shyama. Shubra and Saloni make thme know the truth by finding it out. It turns out he was trying to help her. Narpat, father of Saloni and Shubra, had an affair with her and abandoned her, putting her into a bad mental state. Kalika is Shyama and Narpat's illegitimate daughter who hates her father.
