Shakib lifts Bangladesh to 228 against Kiwis

Postby aryan on Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:51 am

DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan hit 58 off 51 balls to steer Bangladesh to a competitive 228 all out in the first one-day international against New Zealand on Tuesday.

Scorecard

The left-hander hit eight fours after the hosts won the toss and elected to bat in the first game of the five-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on the outskirts of Dhaka.

Recalled opener Shahriar Nafees made 35 and Junaid Siddique chipped in with 30, but the Bangladeshi batsmen failed to build on good starts.

Versatile New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori led from the front with 2-29 in 10 overs of accurate left-arm spin bowling, while seamer Kyle Mills grabbed three wickets for 44 runs.

Jesse Ryder and Andy McKay took two wickets each.

Bangladesh, who have won just two of their 20 one-dayers this year, were bowled out with three deliveries still remaining in their innings.

New Zealand, victorious in 16 of their 17 previous matches against Bangladesh, face a target of 4.58 runs an over to take the lead in the series.
