Singer Chinmayi turns to activist!

Postby huma on Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:50 am

An award-winning singer, a popular RJ, reality show host and CEO of a company — if you thought that Chinmayi has been wearing too many hats, you are in for a surprise.

The singer has added one more hat by turning an activist! And the issue that has caught her fancy is the on-going debate on the use of BT food.

“Actress Rohini has taken it upon herself to create awareness on the effects of BT food. In fact, I recently met her in the presence of several food scientists and doctors and discussed the dire effects of genetically modified food,” she says.
Elaborating her cause, she adds, “For instance, one of the scientists present at the meeting claimed that cows would not be able to eat cotton seeds (paruthi) that come from BT cotton. And, growing BT crops could spell disaster for our soil in the long run. This really alarmed us. So, Rohini and I really wanted to take this issue to the public.”
Rohini and Chinmayi will soon be holding a press conference to announce their plan of action.

“We will be seeking the help of the government and several multi-national companies to help us create an awareness on the importance of using organic food items. And, our Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is a person who supports anything natural,” smiles Chinmayi.

Actress Rohini chips in, “We’re planning a star night with prominent singers, but it’s too early to talk about it.”
Meanwhile, Chinmayi, on her part, has started involving friends to popularise the organic food movement in the city.
“I, along with a couple of my friends, have begun growing vegetables and fruits the organic way. And, I will be talking to my singer friends in the industry to support our cause,” she says.

Also, the singer’s blog and profile on the Internet are overflowing with inputs, comments and ideas that seek to spread the message that organic food is good!
