JOHANNESBURG: Just two journalists from Pakistan turned up here to cover the all-important Champions Trophy against more than fifty Indians who so far been here for the purpose.
The two journalists belonging to The News and Geo (sponsored by their respective organisations) have travelled from Pakistan for purpose while another two journalists of Pakistani origin based abroad are also here.
The organisers here have expressed their surprise over such a thin attendance of the Pakistan journalists despite the fact that over 50 have sent their accreditation for purpose.
"We were expecting at least half of the accredited Pakistan journalists to turn up for the event. It is surprising that only two from Pakistan are here," Tanya Torrance, said.
It is possibly for the first time during past so many years that PCB did not sponsor a single journalist from Pakistan. Had it not been to the personal interest shown by the Jang Group, there would have been no representation from Pakistan media.
At a time when Pakistan's performance is up to the mark so far, possibly the interest of cricket followers back home has been kept alive by the thin presence of Pakistan media here.
"Over a hundred journalists from all over the world are here to cover the event and just two from Pakistan have turned up for the coverage. It is the smallest presence of media from any participating country," she said.
