Spanish Couples Remarry Hindu Style In India

Postby huma on Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:44 am

Eleven Spanish couples remarried in the Hindu style in Jaipur city of India’s northwestern Rajasthan state. The entire event, organized by the Raj Palace Hotel, was conceptualized like any Hindu wedding, with wedding processions following the couples, who rode on 11 ornately decorated elephants.

“Basically, 11 Spanish couples wanted to tie the knot here according to the Indian style of wedding. They contacted us and we have arranged this wedding for them. So, it’s basically a mock wedding. They are already married and they are remarrying here,” said Ankur Rara, the wedding organizer.

For the Spanish couples, the experience was an exciting one. “We are very excited, very, very much, as we never used to see such kinds of weddings and perhaps this is the first time I ride on an elephant. I never ride a horse and more or less camel and elephant,” said Zurab and Russell, one of the couples.

The event was termed as ‘mock wedding’ as the couples were already married, but it ended up as a monsoon wedding, for during the ceremony, it rained heavily.
