The name of the place comes from a myth that says that this natural fortification of forests and hills was built by Bhoothams (spirit/ghosts) overnight. Hence the name Bhoothathankettu (fort of the spirits). If you have had an overdose of the Kerala beaches and backwaters do head for Bhoothathankettu for a totally different experience under a Keralian sun. A tour to Bhoothathankettu is therefore a must on a trip to Kerala.
