Idiot is no longer a derogatory word thanks to the latest Aamir Khan-starrer which has rocketed off to a mind-boggling start at box office.

The smiles on the faces of producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani keeps getting broader as hordes of people are lining up to see 3 Idiots which had an unprecedented release in 40 countries with about 2,000 prints by its distributor Reliance BIG Entertainment.

Understandably, the collections have been as big, particularly after rave reviews by critics and the audiences’ word of mouth spreading faster than wild fire. As a result, the film is learnt to have grossed about Rs. 100 crore worldwide in its four-day run, including the paid previews on Thursday.

“We are privileged to have been associated with ‘3 idiots’ and its immensely talented team led by Vinod, Aamir and Raju. The ramp-up to Rs. 100 crore in 4 days is phenomenal and we are confident thatthe film will continue to blaze new records in the weeks to come,” Amit Khanna, Chairman, Reliance Big Entertainment, said in a statement.

The response to the film has been overwhelming even in a country like Australia where ‘3 Idiots’ has emerged as the biggest Bollywood opener till date, eating into the market share of ‘Avatar’.

Made at the budget of Rs 80-100 crore, the film had a rocking start on Thursday itself when it raked in Rs. 9 crore worldwide from the paid previews only.

The film, starring Aamir, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor is running to packed houses in multiplexes and is expected to breakbox office records in the coming days.
