USGS will be a high profile name to join the growing campaign since midnight Eastern Time on Wednesday that will see its black your page so that visitors will see only information about the controversial Stop Internet Piracy Law (Sopa) and the protection of Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) .

Information will encourage readers of Wikipedia to contact your local congressman to vote against the bills. Other smaller sites are leading the campaign include Reddit.com and Cheezeburger.

"It's rather clumsily drafted legislation, which is dangerous for an open Internet," Wells said in an interview. Solution darkening site was decided by voting in the community of Wikipedia writers and editors who run the free service, Wales said.

English Wikipedia receives more than 25 million average daily visitors from around the world, according to ComScore data.

Accounts hole technology companies like Google Inc and Facebook against supporters of the bill, including Hollywood studios and music labels that say the legislation necessary for the protection of intellectual property and employment.

Sopa legislation pending in the House of Representatives aimed at combating online sales of pirated American movies, music or other goods, forcing Internet companies to block access to foreign sites offering material that violates U.S. copyright laws.

Supporters say the bill is unlikely to have an impact on U.S. websites.

U.S. ad networks may also be required to stop the online advertising, search engines will not be allowed direct links were spread pirated products.

Google has repeatedly stated, the bill goes too far and could damage your investment. Along with other Internet companies like Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and eBay, is to run ads in major newspapers call Washington lawmakers to rethink their approach.

White House officials expressed concern Saturday about Zopa saying that they believe it can do business on the Internet are vulnerable to litigation and damage to the legitimate activities and freedom of speech.

"We are pleased to see the opposition building, and that the White House began to pay attention," Wells said.

News comments White House invited a prominent supporter of the bill's chief executive News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch to slam the Obama administration.

"Since Obama has cast his lot with the treasurers of Silicon Valley, which threaten all software creators with piracy, plain theft," he posted on his Twitter account balance on Saturday. (Reuters)
