Will America ever get to Assange?

Postby huma on Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:16 am

Unlikely. For the US to get to the man at the centre of its most compelling controversy, it will have to wade through a difficult legal road that has citizenship and extradition issues as the biggest speed breakers.

Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, is an Australian citizen, currently on bail in England for criminal charges in Sweden. He is wanted by the US for acquiring confidential diplomatic cables and leaking them out through newspapers in five countries. It's a legal mess. So, what are the chances that the US will get to him? The US has to first figure out what to charge Assange with. It's so complex that a Congressional Committee held a meeting recently to hear top lawyers' opinions on what law can be applied.
